Our Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum

At Skipton Parish Church of England Primary School, our Early Year Foundation Stage curriculum aims to provide children with a happy, safe and
stimulating environment which encourages and empowers them to be the best that they can be through the enjoyment of learning. We want our
children to flourish.

It is our intent that all children develop physically, verbally, cognitively and emotionally in an environment which values all cultures, communities and
people. We aim for our children to be confident and independent, to believe in themselves and interact positively with others. We understand
that play is an integral part of learning and this is at the heart of our early years’ curriculum. We believe that the correct mix of adult directed and
uninterrupted child-initiated play ensures the best outcomes for pupils. In this way our reception learners become confident and successful learners
who are eager to explore more and to learn more.

We want to create a language rich environment in which children are immersed in stories, songs, rhymes and talk. We give children experiences that
promote wonder and talk and lead to learning. To support a love of language, reading and writing we teach phonics from very start of a child’s time
at our school and introduce children to wide range of stories and texts.

We want our children to have opportunities to develop their fine and gross physical skills so we ensure a broad range of provision is available to
learners that is varied and changes throughout the school year. Children also have dedicated physical development sessions that are led by our
specialist PE teacher.

The revised EYFS Curriculum came into effect in September 2021. As a result, we have reviewed our Early Years curriculum to ensure that our children
receive the best start. Click here to read our curriculum document.
